When he first arrived at Shiroiwa he joined up with a boy named Numai and they jointly formed a gang. Thanks to this Kazuo held a reputation across the entire prefecture that he was tough and he was rumoured to have even taken on yakuza and won. No one would ever question his authority.
His parents died when he was very young and Kiriyama was adopted by a rich corporation president who ensured he was taught everything he would need to know in life. However there was something that could never be explained through these lessons and that was a strange feeling near his left temple. Kazuo was injured while in the womb by a splinter which dug out several nerves in his brain. Without them Kiriyama was unable to feel a single emotion in his whole life. He is indifferent to everything and feels neither joy nor sorrow.
Kiriyama is very intimidating and collected. His calm, cold eyes can stare down anyone on Earth and he was known for always seeming to be stuck within his own mind, ignoring those around him as almost unimportant.
When thrust into the game Kazuo makes a choice as to whether he should play the game or not. Due to his indifference he simply flips a coin. The result means he would slaughter his classmates just because he could cause after all, 'This is fun too'.
